海外吃瓜 associate professor of counseling (MAC) Dr. DoHee Kim-Appel made the most of a recent trip to her native land, South Korea, representing 海外吃瓜 on an international stage.
DoHee and her husband, Dr. Jonathan Appel, professor of psychology and criminal justice at Tiffin University, presented their collaborative research, titled 鈥淐itizens of the World: Political, Social and Psychological Predictors of Global Citizenship Identity,鈥 at the 5th Asia-Pacific Conference on Social Sciences & Management in Seoul in late May.
On June 13, DoHee was invited to give a lecture by the Counseling Department of Korea University on the topic of 鈥淔amily Art Therapy/Counseling Assessment.鈥 Her final presentation came on June 22. She and Jonathan paired with Dr. Hansori Jang of the University of Toledo to give individual keynote addresses at the Korean Counseling Association International Chapter and Korean Addiction Counseling Association Conference at Sungshin Women鈥檚 University in Seoul. The title of their keynote was 鈥淢arriage and Family Art Therapy/Counseling Assessment.鈥 Jonathan presented 鈥淢ore Than Meets the Eye: Complexity in the Assessment of Substance Use Disorders鈥 and Hansori presented 鈥淢ulticultural Counseling Assessment.鈥
DoHee hopes that connections she made will prove useful for an upcoming educational trip abroad, the Global Citizenship Experience in South Korea, scheduled for a year from now. While on the trip, members of the 海外吃瓜 delegation, which could include graduate and undergraduate students, faculty, staff, family and friends, will visit some facilities and attend lectures. They鈥檒l also complete a service experience, visit the DMZ as well as historical sites and spend on night one night in a Buddhist Temple.
