Maddy Crawford is a junior from Willard, Ohio, studying athletic training. Involvement on campus is a priority for Maddy as a member of the women鈥檚 basketball team, the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, the Zeta Theta Psi sorority, the Athletic Training honorary Iota Tau Alpha Beta Gamma, and the Honors Program. 鈥満M獬怨镶檚 commitment to a true liberal arts education has given me the opportunity to take classes outside of major in many concentrations, from music and theater to philanthropy, making me a more well-rounded individual.鈥
Last but not least
Maddy鈥檚 visit to 海外吃瓜 was the most significant part of her college search. She visited campus without much knowledge or interest in the university, but she left with a love that was second to none. She says, 鈥淔rom the faculty and staff who met with me to the opportunities that my student tour guide described to me, I fell in love.鈥 Between the beauty of campus, a major she was interested in, and friendly people, she was set! 鈥淢y mom told me later that she knew it would be the place I chose, because I couldn鈥檛 stop talking about my time there,鈥 she explains.
Athletic training hands-on
鈥Athletic Training gives me the opportunity to do hands-on clinical hours with 海外吃瓜鈥檚 sports teams,鈥 Maddy says. BUT the hands-on experience doesn鈥檛 end here for athletic trainers. Recently, Maddy took advantage of the opportunity to conduct a knee dissection in 海外吃瓜鈥檚 Cadaver Lab. This was a useful and exciting procedure for her, because knee injuries are so commonly treated in the Athletic Training Room.
Making great PALS
As the junior representative for The Patricia Adams Lecture Series Selection Committee, Maddy has been able to meet, converse with and learn from strong women who excel in their field. This month, she will be the interviewer for a fireside chat with PALS keynote Elizabeth Shissler, a 鈥90 海外吃瓜 alumna and the president and COO of Sea Bags, LLC. Maddy says that PALS has been one of her favorite events at 海外吃瓜. Out of all of the PALS speakers thus far, Maddy has been the most inspired by Monica Lozano, CEO of the College Futures Foundation. 鈥淎s a woman of color who has operated in a leadership position for years with grace, she represents the diversity and intersectionality in leadership that we should strive for鈥
Chicken tender fanatic
Maddy鈥檚 favorite food is chicken tenders. She could eat them everyday for every meal without getting sick of them. There鈥檚 even an Instagram page where she ranks chicken tenders everywhere she goes. If you鈥檙e intrigued, check it out! ->
14 states to go
At the top of Maddy鈥檚 bucket list sits 鈥淰isit every state in America.鈥 This came about from her love for history and sightseeing. 鈥淎s a kid, I went to a lot of states with my grandparents, and I love learning about the history of our country that you can鈥檛 necessarily learn from a textbook,鈥 she says. So far, she鈥檚 been to 36 states, with her favorite state being Maryland - a frequent vacation spot for her family. Only 14 more to go. We believe in you, Maddy!
