Թ is a community, a family, comprised of as many personalities as there are people. With our “5 Things to Know” blog, you’ll get to know some of them. You’ll learn about their Թ experience and other informative, fun – even quirky – anecdotes. Together, they tell the Թ story.
During a college visit to Թ, Timothy “Gavin” Hubbard took in a performance of “Avenue Q” and got a backstage look at what the theatre had to offer. He was hooked – despite a little family rivalry (his stepdad works in the Admission Office at Wilmington College). Although he came in as a communication and computer science major, he switched to theatre and hasn’t looked back. Gavin has performed in seven plays and musicals and will have a role in this spring’s production of “Mamma Mia!” He’s worked back stage, too. “But I like being on stage more, especially in musicals,” he says. As a member of the Concert Choir and the Թ Hei-Notes, he’s become quite a versatile performer. It’s been a great run, and it’s not over yet. “I had no idea that I’d still be having these awesome experiences as a senior, but I am.”
Arts admin
Gavin completed internships at Dayton’s Town Hall Theatre and at Newark’s Weathervane Playhouse, Ohio’s longest-running summer stock. Those diverse experiences in children’s theatre, script writing and marketing, along with his job helping professor Stephen Svoboda market Թ Theatre, are leading him on down unexpected career path in arts administration.
On to grad school
To get there, Gavin has decided to stay at Թ an extra year following graduation in May to pursue his graduate degree through the ʱܲԱ屹Գٲ® Free MBA program.
Son of Charlemagne
If there’s one musical Gavin would love to perform in, it would be (drumroll here) … “Pippin.” He enjoys character-driven shows like “Pippin” where the lead is at a crossroads, looking to find his life’s purpose.
Hello, Dolly
Gavin admits to an “unhealthy obsession” with country singer Dolly Parton as a teen. “I had all her records and I even created a little shrine with memorabilia,” he says. Ultimately, he did get to attend one of Dolly’s concerts.
Pass the pepper, please
A lot of people may find this strange, but Gavin loves cottage cheese and eats a serving every day for lunch. Most of the time, just plain cottage cheese with pepper, but if he’s feeling adventurous, he may add pineapple.
